Apartment house for Łódź-
The aim of the competition proposal was to create the most accurate solution embedded in the architectural typology of Łódź historic inner-city apartmnet houses. The concept was a contemporary answet for connecting past and futue of architecture by using classical principles of architecture and detail. It also answered the sociologial history of the building. The courtyard, as it was in the past, is a shared space open to all inhabitants of the house and their neighbours. Services are allocated around it and enhancing semi-pubmic semi-privat space.
The typology of appartments adresses the needs of different buyers: singles, couples and families. Again as it was in the past, the biggest appartments are loctaed at the front part and the smallest are overlooking green courtyard.
Contenporary tenement house shoudl also answer to the ecological needs of the city and society. Therefore the vertical, hydroponic farm was introduced in order to solve not only aesthetical challnge of blind wall of the neighbour house, but also to allow to grow own fruits and vegetables.
The proposed elevation is following the rythm of the historical buildings. However the former paradigm of unity is being broken by the itrodcution of blinds that can be moved accordingly to the needs of appartment owner. Thus the architectural answer speaks through individualism set against the rules established by architectural background.
